No. Item 1 Election of Committee members Mary Palmer was voted in and welcomed as the new Chairman for CTN.
Mary brings a great deal of experience to the role and the committee looks forward to supporting Mary in her new role with CTN. Arlene was thanked for her great contribution to CTN over the past 3 years. The current committee members are as follows Treasurer: Hilda, Membership Secretary: Emer, Secretary and Web site: Carmel, Facebook: Clodagh and Kim, Events and workshops: Amanda and Lesley, Committee member organisers: Sara and Arlene. All committee members will continue in their current roles for the next year. 2 Report from the chair Arlene appealed to all at the meeting to use the many opportunities provided by CTN and reviewed the many events of 2016 The K+S show organized by Amanda with many helpers Remix exhibition at the CSM was organized by Sara Blarney organized by Emer Arlene thanked all who contributed to the many activities that are carried out throughout the year by CTN voluntary members. Arlene wishes Mary well in her role as Chair. 3 Treasurer’s Report Hilda listed all events with profits / losses against each event. The costs for the year were €6000 the overall Income in 2016 €8000. 4 Skills Exchange Anne O’Connor will run a skills exchange project at Bishopstown Library on 4th March , 10-1pm on Kumihimo Braiding. Please bring the following for those of you who wish to attend: Paper scissors Ruler Split ring Double knitting yarn in four colours. (Optional) Embroidery thread in four colours. (Optional)
Text confirmation of attendance to Anne at 086 3393444. It is vital that Anne knows in advance how many people will attend as she has a long distance to travel to provide the workshop. This workshop is free to attend. On 1st April , 10-1pm, Frances Leach will provide a workshop on tapestry weaving on a frame. Max numbers for this class is 6. She also needs to know if people are complete beginners. Frances will provide the weaving looms. On 6th May 10-1pm, Sara O’Hara will organize a yarn bombing day in preparation for a yarn bombing in Cork which will take place during 2018. Please let Sara know if you intend to go. If you have ideas for other classes or wish to deliver a workshop please let Mary Palmer know. Thank you to all who have offered to volunteer to teach this activity. 5 Community Awards Scheme CTN has been awarded €15000 from Cork County Council Arts Office for the purpose of 6 arts based courses with disadvantaged groups in the Ballincollig/Carrigaline municipal district. Marymount Hospice, Youthreach Ballincollig, Sonas, Carrigaline, NCBI, Direct Provision on Kinsale Road, Headway.
The theme of the project is “Welcome to my World. Emer Fenlan is generously co-ordinating this project on behalf of CTN. An exhibition for the finished work will take place mid November 2017 at the County Hall Exhibition space. Linking with the community will be a significant element of this work. 6 Knitting and Stitching Show The full report is available on the web site http://www.corktextiles.com/Events-Archive/knit-and-stitch-2016report.html. In 2016, CTN occupied the largest stand to date. Many contacts were made during the week. Our criteria for membership was commented on, in particular the fact that we are the only group in the country that has a fully inclusive membership . Sue Stone will deliver a masterclass which will feed into the 2018 show. This year’s exhibition at the Knit and Stitch 9-12 November 2017 will be a retrospective. The basic criteria for work to be entered will be that members submit work that is less than 3 years old and not shown in the RDS before. Deadline for submission is 1st September 2017. Working title : Re:Member. If work must be framed it should be behind glass in white frames, easily hangable and robust enough for transport. 3d work is welcome but must be self supporting or have its own stand. The Knitting and Stitching organisers are aware of the 20th year celebrations and have agreed to take the exhibition to all 3 venues for the Knitting and Stitching shows in 2018. The projects for 2018: 1. Working title : SELFIE: CTN has agreed to a stand with external hanging space. On the outside the curators would like a self portrait of as many members as possible done in your own medium. It can take any form but the format must be portrait 22×16 inches finished size not framed. Your name need not be in it but your name will be displayed alongside it. Purchase a slim canvas at either Vibes and Scribes or Cork Arts Supplies. Sue Stone will provide a masterclass – 2 day workshop and is currently being organized by Lesley. The plan is to make this workshop all inclusive and as cheap as possible. 2. Working title: Who made this? (under discussion). The internal exhibition starting point: choose your favourite BOOK. Make a piece in response to this book.
Using a Tiger shelf , your book will go on top and your work will be exhibited on top of the book. Your book will be used in the show it must be hardback. The piece should sit on the front cover. Aim to keep dangling and trailing to a minimum. We will have to transport everything to Alexandra Palace and collect from Harrogate. Amanda needs people who have links in the UK and 3-4 people per venue would be required for the following venues Dublin, Harrogate, Alexander Palace. A catalogue and post cards would be interesting to have in association with the exhibition. 7 CIT Cork School of Music exhibition Sara reported on the CSM exhibition in the space which is now called Pause. Sara has the full process for this exhibition documented to make the work easier for the next organizer. Many members hung the show and volunteered to do the additional work required. The long note prize was won by Anne Kiely and Mary Palmer and CSM purchased Kim’s piece. If we want to book this exhibition we must get working on the arrangements now. Arlene will follow up on the booking for 2017. Dara Healy generously volunteered to run the 2017 show. Thank you. Sara will audit the hanging kit. Amanda would recommend an electric screwdriver to be added to the kit. 8 Crossover Project Caroline McNamara is organizing an international exhibition in Sweden in association with yarn manufacturer Texere and the ETN conference in Sweden, September 2017. This is open to members of CTN. The deadline is mid February. If you are interested in participating please email Arlene ASAP on aureliathreads@gmail.com. Please email the form to Caroline directly if you consider applying. 9 Photography of Work Sara will organize a photography session with photographer Rob Lamb, Arlene will also assist. For 20-30 members Rob will photograph for one day for €500. He will be available from 10-4 on a day that suits in May 2017 at his office in Douglas. It will work out at approx. €25 per person. This will be offered to CTN members only. Head shots are very handy to have for members. We will get a group price from Rob for CTN for anyone interested in this please. Postcards could also be organized by Rob – Arlene will get a price from Rob for this work. 10 Garda vetting Garda vetting for the Creative Communities Award will be organized for CTN by Cork County Council. 11 GANS Minutes form the RDS committee meeting in January will be made available. Mary Palmer offered to take work to the RDS for the judging in June. Maura Hennebery offered to collect work if that is required. CTN will cover the expenses for any member to travel to the meeting in Kilkenny on behalf of CTN. 12 Future Exhibitions Currently we will have the K+S and CSM shows in 2017 .
There will be a Bishopstown Library exhibition for Feb 2018 (which will be called The Silk Road) and touring K+S exhibition at the end of 2018. Sara has generously volunteered to organize the Silk Road exhibition. Thank you. There was a discussion on potential new centres that we may consider such as : The Vision Centre, The Triskel, Google, 1 Albert Quay, Hotels eg Clayton, Lismore Castle Arts, The Pigs Back, The Crawford, The Hunt, The Uilleann in Skibbereen. If you are considering new exhibition centres please ask and report back to the committee. 13 2018 Plans A sub committee for 2018 was formed. Amanda is chair of the committee and the group members are : Helen Stringer, Hilda De Lacy, Carmel Creaner, Martina Carroll, Anne Kiely, A.Shawcross. The committee will meet to set a plan and give feedback to the group. One project is to do 20 short videos on 20 members. A small contribution will be offered by each member to be videoed. A plan will be developed by the 2018 sub committee by the end of Feb 2017. 14 AOB Lesley is working with the new Educate Together secondary school in Cork. They are doing a textile project and the next theme is “Metamorphosis” and looking for existing garments as a starting point as a donation. They are looking for approx. 15 garments for age 13-15. Mary has an exhibition on at The Pigs Back until mid-March 2017. Mary is organizing a fundraiser in aid of the Sexual Violence Center (formally the Rape crisis centre). Mary is looking for donations of 8” or 10” pieces for sale at €25€30. There is no theme to the work. A raffle is also planned. If anyone knows where this is please let Mary Palmer know.
The library at Bishopstown would like to develop a sensory room. They would like to have several bean bags made up. Several volunteers offered at the meeting to help make up the bags. This activity will take place in the Library. A presentation was made to Arlene at the end of the meeting to mark her great contribution to CTN as Chairman.
