Bio:
Eileen Coates has a love and respect for what makes a landscape, and for handmaking. Her concern for the environment is at the heart of her recent experiments with textiles and plant materials, from the countryside and the coast. Currently she expresses these interests in hand-stitched books and collages using recycled fabrics. The shapes and colours are often derived from seaweed, indigo, hawthorn, acorns and other local finds. Over several years she worked in India and Lesotho and this influences the way she thinks about her practice. She studied ceramics in Limerick School of Art and Design and has an MA from the National College of Art and Design in Dublin.
