Úna Ní Shé

Bio:

Úna Ní Shé lives in a wild natural environment in Corca Dhuibhne, West Kerry where she observes, collects and uses materials that she finds, or sometimes nurtures, for art purposes. She explores the limits of her fiber medium, subverting the soft nature of wool felt to, for example, make large visceral drawings of bones. But in the end everything must have meaning, grace and beauty. Film is also an element of her practice. Una’s initial degree was in woven and constructed textiles. Felt hat forms were soon developed into intuitive sculptural forms. Her drawings of bones were developed into large felt wall pieces that were exhibited throughout Ireland. Her sculptures were selected in recent years for the Hammond, Mill Cove and an Gailearaí, Donegal. She exhibited larger sculptures outdoors in 2022 on Gola Island for Féile Earagail. Donegal and for Féile na Bealtaine, Dingle 2023.
